This is written by a young man serving his third tour of duty in Iraq.
Thought you might find his take on the Michael Jackson news interesting.

Okay, I need to rant.I was just watching the news, and I caught part of a report on MichaelJackson. As we all know, Jackson died the other day. He was anentertainer who performed for decades. He made millions, he spentmillions, and he did a lot of things that make him a villian to manypeople. I understand that his death would affect a lot of people, andI respect those people who mourn his death, but that isn't the pointof my rant.Why is it that when ONE man dies, the whole of America loses theirminds with grief. When a man dies whose only contribution to thecountry was to ENTERTAIN people, the Amercian people find the need toflock to a memorial in Hollywood, and even Congress sees the need tohold a "moment of silence" for his passing?Am I missing something here? ONE man dies, and all of a sudden he's afreaking martyr because he entertained us for a few decades? Whatabout all those SOLDIERS who have died to give us freedom? All thoseSoldiers who, knowing that they would be asked to fight in a war,still raised their hands and swore to defend the Constitution and theUnited States of America. Where is their moment of silence? Whereare the people flocking to their graves or memorials and mourning overthem because they made the ultimate sacrifice? Why is it when aSoldier dies, there are more people saying "good riddence," and "thankGod for IEDs?" When did this country become so calloused to thesacrifice of GOOD MEN and WOMEN, that they can arbitrarily blow offtheir deaths, and instead, throw themselves into mourning for a "PopIcon?"I think that if they are going to hold a moment of silence IN CONGRESSfor Michael Jackson, they need to hold a moment of silence for everyservice member killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. They need to PUBLICLYrecognize every life that has been lost so that the American peoplecan live their callous little lives in the luxury and freedom that WE,those that are living and those that have gone on, have provided forthem. But, wait, that would take too much time, because there havebeen so many willing to make that sacrifice. After all, we will nevermake millions of dollars. We will never star in movies, or write hitsongs that the world will listen too. We only shed our blood, sweatand tears so that people can enjoy what they have.Sorry if I have offended, but I needed to say it. Remember these five words the next time you think of someone
who is serving in the military;
"So that others may live..." Isaac
I got that in email today and being a mom of a active duty service member and a sister of a active duty service member and a daughter of a retired active duty service member. I do have to say I agree I understand that Michael Jackson touched many peoples lives in many ways and he ment alot to people but what of each service member that fights and get shot at and makes life bearable for both us and people who have no voice in some of these countries and their families back home. Each of these men and women who have fought and died for any reason as they serve in the US Military should also be remembered with all reverence and their moment of silence for the life they gave so we can be entertained by folks and listen and watch if we so choose, because we CAN choose because of their sacrafice.

Day 16 continued
A Mothers Journey..........

This is the first start of a blog that I hope will run no longer then 6 months, hopefully he shall be at home by January 2010. Today is Day 16 my youngest son, is the only one to have talked to him VIA Skype and he is doing well at his job there in the sandy place. Everyone is saying he is going to be safe and we have raised him right its not him I worry about. I wonder how many moms are facing the fear that I have about loosing my son, to some crazy who has been convinced of many virgins in their version of heaven. Who has heaven on the brain like that. Any why, oh yes and btw he is in the Air Force
Let me first say in advance as you follow my blog I am a rambler, so let me apologize in advance
